People love portraits and Parasol simply love creating them.
Ever since the beginning of mankind, we have wanted to record for posterity the likenesses of ourselves, our families and the people we wish to remember. Paintings of the early bushmen and the Egyptian Pharaohs, followed by traditional sketches and paintings have all been part of this evolution. From the middle of the 19th century, photography in all its emerging forms has continued the process, helping us to satisfy our emotions and lessen the fear of our inability to remember our loved ones.?
Naturally the ease by which we can all now record images has made this appear less urgent. There is a feeling that ?We can always take their picture!? However, human nature often means that we put it off and before we know it, all those landmarks, so special at the time, have gone for ever. That first smile, tooth, tuft of hair?.they only appear once, just as the first birthday, putting on the first school uniform, going off to university are events that once happened can never be repeated. These are the motivations and emotions that drive the need for photography and it is the pride of showing off these images as framed wall portraits that mean the value of professionally taken portrait photographs is immeasurable.?
Think of those early faded sepia pictures of our ancestors, whatever the condition they are priceless. If your house was burning down, they would be to the top of the list of ?Must Save?. But for Parasol it is more than just creating portraits of people. It is ensuring that they tell the whole story, what the subjects ?are like? rather than just what ?they look like?.? And composing family pictures that will stand the test of time, be cherished more and more as the subjects change, it is a unique product that increases in value with age!As throughout the centuries, the display is all part of the challenge. Professionally produced portraits need to be sensitively presented to the surroundings. Mounting and framing should be just as much part of the process. Gone are the days when a cheap plastic clip frame will suffice! And of course, what wonderful presents they make, fabulous for giving to relatives and friends in faraway places
